The newest episode of “Fringe” aired on Thursday, Nov. 11 on Fox. Episode 3.6 was called “6955 kHz” and continued to show how the Alternate Olivia was working in our universe. The episode began in Maine though, as well as in New York and New Hampshire, where people listening to a particular radio frequency had their minds erased. Enter the “good” fringe team to deal with the new case.
Back at the home of Peter Bishop, the day was beginning with Peter and the Alternate Olivia waking up from having spent the night together. Peter was still in the dark about what was going on, and Alternate Olivia was still trying to lay the groundwork for him to trust her implicitly. It certainly seemed to be working at that point. It was of course also cut short as they were called into the case to deal with the amnesia case of 15 people up and down the coast.
The theory of “number stations” was explored in the episode, and it was what the people were all listening to on their radios. The broadcast contained a list of numbers from an unknown origin, and each of the people listening was trying to come to a conclusion as to what they meant or where they were coming from. They then became the victim of someone hiding a pulse within the number stream. Another number pulse occurred part way through the episode, this time bringing down a small plane that had been tuned to the frequency during a storm.
A subplot from the episode was that Peter was still working on the machine from “the other side”, despite the protests from Walter that he needed to stop building the equivalent of a nuclear bomb. The Alternate Olivia was also having trouble keeping up with Peter, as it was becoming more obvious to her that there was simply too much she didn’t know about the real Olivia to keep up the charade for any length of time.
The twist? It turned out that the “number stations” were actually being conducted by people from the others side; more specifically shape shifters. Midway through the investigation, Alternate Olivia figured out who was setting up the broadcasts, and arrived at his home before the rest of the fringe team. She killed him in order to put an end to that particular line of the investigation. Back at the lab though, Astrid cracked the code of numbers, which basically were coordinates on this side. Those coordinates were surmised to have artifacts buried under ground, and the team set about excavating one of the geographical locations.
Each of the coordinates marked a different spot where pieces to the machine from the other side were located. Now the “good guys” had the pieces in order to build their own machine. What comes next could be quite interesting.
In the alternate universe, the “good” Olivia had her phantom Peter appear again, warning her that it was time to escape that world because Walternate had figured out she knew how to jump between worlds.
The next new episode of “Fringe” is set to air on Thursday, Nov. 18 and is titled “Abduction.”
