Six years ago I went through my “leopard print” phase and this affected everything from my clothing to my bed sheets down to my throw rugs and window dressings. It was that same year I received the most unique furniture piece I had ever owned. It was a leopard print faux fur chair that was in the shape of a high heel. It remained my most prized conversation piece but alas my mood changed and it was time to redecorate. I knew I needed to lose the chair but it was much too elegant to be carted away to the dump and I set out trying to find a local store that might buy it from me.
After some on-line research I stumbled across x21 and headed down to 890 Valencia Street. This place is what I’d imagine walking into a Hollywood prop room would look like. Everything from a giant box of popcorn to a coffee table with a sleazy panther base to really great vintage pieces. They happily purchased my high heel chair for a satisfying $125! I used $50 of that towards store credit and bought an awesome vintage movie poster.Since that purchase I have returned many times and have scored on a sterling silver cocktail set, vintage place settings,a plaster column and the most exquisite chandelier.
I would also like to mention that this is one of a handful of vintage or unique furniture/furnishing stores on Valencia St. so if you didn’t find what you wanted there you can take a stroll down to The Touch located at 956 Valencia St or Farnsworth located at 393 Valencia which features furnishings with a more Danish modern flair. If you are in need of thriftier price ranges then just head on over a few blocks to 2101 Mission St at 17Th St. and enter the double story second hand mecca that is Thrift Town.
Between these unique stores and all the hole in the wall variety shops on Mission St. nearby you can decorate your digs from floor to ceiling and have enough cash leftover to do it again in a month!
