The 18th annual TXU Energy Turkey Trot has become the largest Thanksgiving Day race in the Houston area. This walk or run event benefit’s the Sheltering Arms Senior Services, a non-profit organization which offers a large array of benefits and programs to Houston, Texas senior citizens. If you and your family are looking for a fun activity for Thanksgiving Day this years race has a new location at Dillard’s at the Houston Galleria. Arrivals are 6:00 to 7:30 a.m. They have a 10K or 5K walk and run, a special start for those participating in wheelchairs and a later time for children. It is a wonderful day to burn some calories before you head home to your turkey feast and help the elderly in the Houston, Texas area, a perfect annual tradition to start with your family.
Woodlands Town Center -Winter Waterway Festival – November 20, 2010 through January 17, 2011
A great way to kick off your week of family fun activities is north of Houston in The Woodlands at their 28th annual Lighting of the Doves. On Saturday, November the 20th from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. you can enjoy the holiday festivities. In Town Green Park on the Woodlands waterway you can enjoy: music, ice carvers, fireworks, snow, children’s activities and the arrival of Santa Claus. There are a great number of activities for the entire family. And even if you are not able to attend this celebration, you can visit any day after November the 20th to take in all the Christmas decorations and lights. This also is the yearly opening of their ice rink, they have many holiday themed skate nights and family activities also.
Houston Ballet – The Nutcracker – November 26, 2010 through December 26, 2010
Opening the day after Thanksgiving this Houston holiday favorite The Nutcracker is a breathtaking ballet your entire family should not miss out on. They have times for you and your family to attend on certain days at 2:00 p.m. or 7:30 p.m., you can check the prices on their Website, they even have some discounted days. If you haven’t seen it I highly suggest taking your family. Young and old will be enchanted by the magical performance by the Houston ballet, and the classic music of Tchaikovsky. If it is too cold or rainy outside this is the perfect activity for the Thanksgiving and even Christmas holiday.
Space Center Houston – LEGO Castle Adventure – Open now through January 23, 2011
If you haven’t been to Space Center Houston the Thanksgiving holidays are a great time to go. Right now they are featuring the LEGO Castle Adventure. Your family can enjoy this medieval display of legos, the structures made out of Legos are astounding. There is also a section where your children can dress up as a knight, dragon or princess. They can also clime the castle tower, compete on the jousting field and visit the dragon as they explore the castle. You can also get a $5.00 off coupon on the Space Center Houston website. If you decide to take your family to enjoy this cool activity on their Thanksgiving holiday be sure to get there early, they get packed very fast even on weekdays. One tip the food in the café can get a little pricey, I suggest eating before you go. Then when you are having fun your children can enjoy some popcorn or dippin’ dots as a snack. Located in Clear Lake on your way towards Galveston NASA is one of the most fun venues in Houston, Texas for families.
