Halloween has become more than a children’s holiday – it’s a time of family celebration, fun, and adventure. In western New York, there are a number of places where families can enjoy this season of dress-up with safe activities and fall harvest fun.
Holiday Hollow, located at 1410 Main Rd. (Route 5) in Corfu, puts Halloween in a Renaissance Faire atmosphere, complete with a comedy/action Pirate Show, a “Magical Cooking Show,” and Halloween theatrical productions. The faire takes place rain (inside the theatre) or shine (in the “shire”), and there is also a maze, gift shop, and food concessions on premise. Located at 9300 Wolcott Rd. in Clarence Center, Kelkenberg Farm features “Fall Pumpkin Fun” for the family. Open weekends from late September through October, plus Columbus Day Monday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the farm offers hayrides, pony rides for kids, a farm tour, and a pumpkin from their huge pumpkin patch. Great Valley’s Pumpkinville, located at 4844 Sugartown Rd. (just minutes from Ellicottville and Holiday Valley Resort), offers Halloween and harvest fun for all ages. Hayrides and pony rides excite the smallest goblins, while the corn cannon shoot will amuse older kids and adults. Everyone will delight in the delicious harvest treats available at Pumpkinville, from the Antique Cider Mill to Moore’s Maple Shack to Di’s Pies and Bake Shoppe. Pumpkinville also hosts a number of harvest festivals throughout October with additional features. Pumpkinville is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting Saturday, September 18th running all the way through Halloween, Sunday, October 31st; admission charges apply for some activities, but everyday admission is free.
