Part 2 of the baby safe haven series
The Garden of Angels Cemetery
The Garden of Angels Cemetery is devoted to giving the innocent dead a final resting place where they will not be hurt anymore. Shortly after the safe haven laws were passed in California, on March 31, 2001, baby Jacob was found dead next to a garbage can. Babies disposed of in garbage cans is not new to the United nor is it new to Montreal. These tragedies do happen and something must be done about it.
How did the founder of the Garden of Angels Inc. Safe Surrender for Newborns take this information?
No one can say it better than Debi, “now we have this law. I wanted to stand on the rooftops and shout that this didn’t need to happen.” This child didn’t need to die!”
Just a few weeks after that that poor innocent child lost his life in California, another infant was saved because of this new law. The mother gave birth in a hotel room and was going to throw the baby in a garbage can when she remembered she could give the baby away by taking it to a hospital and she wouldn’t get in trouble for it. The baby was cared for and taken to the Garden of Angels Office to show Debi Fanis- Cifelli that safe haven laws can and do really work.
The day the baby was given up to a safe haven was March 31, the same day that baby Jacob was buried. One baby died tragically and the other one was mercifully saved.
Little Michael, the baby that lived because of the safe haven law was successfully adopted and lives with a family in Southern California. Michael’s new mother states, that there are thousands of couples wanting a baby and some are willing to take all kinds of babies that are healthy or disabled, babies from drug addicted mothers, mothers and so on. It doesn’t matter they have enough love to give an innocent child.
