A Garver’s Flea Market fire has left the Strasburg, Ohio landmark in ruins Wednesday night. The massive Strasburg fire was first reported around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13, and it burned into the early morning hours of Thursday, October 14. The cause of the fire had not yet been determined at the time of this report, but it has become suspicious due to several other fires breaking out in neighboring communities. Additional fires were reported at the 1st Lutheran Community Church in Beach City as well as at JB’s in downtown Brewster, Ohio. These fires come one day after a fire at the Der Dutchman restaurant in Waynesville, Ohio, but at least authorities know the cause of that one began in the kitchen area.
Access to Strasburg was extremely limited, and the main road through the village was closed down as firefighters tried to deal with first the fire, and then the aftermath of the blaze. The complex that housed the flea market is a total loss, with the brick retaining walls crashing down into the street as the blaze was brought under control.
