I was a little bit surprised last week when my friends told me how excited they were about the annual re-opening of the Embarcadero Ice Rink. Evidently, it’s all the rage in the Noe Valley neighborhood. I think it has all lot to do with the holiday or end of the year vacations that also occur at the same time.
Let’s face it, during the holidays, you can gain a lot of weight. For this reason, ice skating is the way to go. It’s kind of like easy cardio. After the first day, you feel like you’re going to die from soreness. However, once you recover, you just keep getting stronger.
Plus, I think it’s a big deal in Noe Valley because people like to change in routine from their normal gym cardio. People in Noe Valley seem to have an intense addiction to exercise. For this reason, finding a local Noe Valley posse to go ice rinking with should be just one flier posted in a café away.
The Embarcadero ice rink doesn’t just spice it up for some people though. It’s kind of like going to the gym is what they do in the off-season when the ice rink is closed. These folks have some serious Olympic passion for the sport.
Don’t worry, there’s plenty of fun on the sidelines for lame ducks too. After all, someone has to hold the cocoa and drive the injured to the ER. See you at the rinks!
