I continue to wonder why George Bush came out with his memoirs especially now given that his failed presidency is still raw in people’s psyche. You would think that he would at least have dotted his “I”s and crossed his “T”s.
This however should be expected from a President that would invade a country without learning and understanding the reason his own father did not march into Baghdad during the first invasion of Iraq. Likewise, inasmuch as his advisors advised against tax cuts during a war that ultimately went to the wealthy; he allowed neocons to convince him anyhow. For political gain he passed an expensive prescription drug program that was not paid for as he fought two wars and cut taxes.
An implicit confession of being a war criminal by authorizing waterboarding without the ability to give a cohesive rational that make it any different than another country doing it to us is irresponsible. Lifting passages virtually unchanged from various books by other authors and implying it is his experience is simply lazy. Reinventing history as he did with his description of his reaction to the original terrorist attack as well as misrepresenting the reasons for illegally invading Iraq proves his dishonesty and blatant disregard for the truth or the intelligence of his potential readers.
Anyone purchasing the $35.00 Bush memoirs is purchasing a document that he is expecting to make his legacy. Unfortunately he is doing exactly what the Right had done for him throughout his presidency; create an alternate state of reality.
