If you are loyal reader of my column, you know that one of my favorite places in Palm Springs is Salon 119 & Spa.
On a recent trip to the salon, I decided to have my makeup done by their makeup artist, Nathan Rickel. I had a photo shoot that evening, and after hearing for months, about how wonderful Nathan is at makeup I decided to stop in a give him a try. Boy, were they right! He is fabulous!
Being a makeup artist myself, it is sometimes hard to pinpoint exactly what people are looking for as far as results. And sometimes even after they tell you, sometimes it is still difficult. When Nathan asked me what I was looking for, I pretty much told him to do whatever, to surprise me.
What I really liked about Nathan is that he knew I was going to a shoot, and not only did he ask me what I wanted or expected, he also took into consideration what I would be wearing at the shoot, and he noticed that when I came into the salon, that I like to wear a lot of makeup. For some reason, when most artists do my makeup, they put very little on me (you would think I would be flattered) but instead it drives me crazy! Nathan was very professional and very thorough, and I really appreciated the time that he spent on my makeup.
After applying a slew of Smashbox products (which is one of my faves of all time) to my face, eyes, and lips, I walked out of the salon feeling fabulous, and looking like a million bucks. It was such an honor to have my makeup done by him and it definitely won’t be the last time. He is extremely talented and truly an artist!
