Firstly, try not to feel guilty, you will be a better mother if you get the rest you need. Be sure to take advantage of every offer grandma sends your way. Your body and mind will be healthier for the extra sleep. Try not to worry, remember she has raised children of her own or she would not have grandchildren now.
Try to get the big items out of the way first. Where will baby sleep? Generally if grandma has enough room in her house you can pack a portable bassinet or playpen. Pack the linens with it right away so you don’t forget them later. Now put this item in your car. Secondly, make sure your car seat base is secured and you have the top seat ready for baby. Next big item, the stroller, you might want to give it a quick wipe down then pack it up and put it in the car.
Now consider feeding supplies and formula/breast-milk. Pack three sterilized bottles with caps into a seal able plastic bag. Then include a bottle-brush, and some extra nipples if you have them. If you use breast-milk be sure to pump a minimum of six bottles, and pack them in an iced cooler. Keep them in the refrigerator until you are ready to leave. Send six to eight bibs or burping cloths with the feeding equipment. If you use Mylicon drops for gas you should pack it with the feeding supplies, with a small note on how and when to use them.
The diaper bag is next, you will need to pack about twelve diapers (just in case). Include diaper wipes and the powder or lubricant you use for his bottom. Pack two to four extra sleepers and receiving blankets for the potential accident. Although infants usually do not play yet, I always included some rattles and such just for distraction if they become irritable. If your baby has not lost the top to his bellybutton yet be sure to include alcohol pads with instructions to wipe that area with every diaper change. Include two to three baby wash cloths and mild liquid soap for infants, maybe you’ll get lucky and she will bath him for you too. I also always sent my monitor over there in case my mother and the baby were sleeping in different intervals.
Now give that baby a good bath and powdering, he has to smell stellar for grandma. You might want to check his nails before he goes and make sure they are clipped, it prevents scratching of the face and gives your mom one less thing to lecture you about. Put him in one of the outfits she bought him and pack him in the car seat. You are ready to go. Once your infant is safely with your mother go home and get some sleep, you deserve it!
