The different roles of each ghost hunter are very important to a successful investigation. Making sure that all members take their task seriously will hopefully land you some great evidence. Most teams are no larger than six people but always consist of at least two. Never ghost hunt alone. It is too dangerous. Make sure your team members know how to effectively operate the equipment they are assigned to use.
Audio: to use external microphones and digital reorders to catch EVP (electronic voice phenomenon). This person can set up a recorder in an area to record constantly throughout the investigation. It is more common to have EVP sessions. This is where the person records while asking a sequence of questions, pausing between them in hopes of catching the voice of a ghost. Common questions asked are: “what is your name”; “Do you still reside at this place”. “Did you die here”, “Are you the one that did _____”. A more unconventional method is to carry on a conversation as if someone was in the room with you. Asking personal questions can sometimes get you an EVP answer when the traditional questions don’t.
Video: to use a digital camcorder to record paranormal activity. This person sets up stationary cameras in areas that have documented activity in them. The cameras record throughout the investigation. Team members do carry camcorders with them while they investigate in hopes of catching activity throughout the site.
Pictures:to take digital or 35mm pictures of rooms, objects and random areas. This person takes pictures at random throughout the investigation in hopes of capturing an image of an orb, entity, mist, or any unexplainable activity.
EMF: is used to detect the possible manifestation of a ghost. This person uses the EMF detector to rule out high reading EMF occurrences that are not paranormal. When all natural EMF readings have been ruled out, a fluctuation in the EMF gauge can mean a ghost may be manifesting.
Sensitive: is a person with psychic abilities that “sense”possible paranormal activity. This person is usually a psychic. They can feel the different electromagnetic fields that are associated with paranormal activity. Some claim to “see” the ghost or can communicate with the entity. The sensitive sometimes brings religious aspects to the investigation; such as smudge sticks, crystals, stones and candles.
Central control: is set up outside of the investigation area to monitor the progress of the investigation. Sometimes this person monitors the stationary video feed to alert the other members of activity. They also log any activity that the team encounters.
