When you’re ready for a change in the décor of a child’s room you have more options than you can even consider. If you’re going for an elegant look you can use frills and golden accents. For a country look, ruffles and gingham. But, if you just want to make the child’s room a cool place for him or her consider ordinary craft foam. It can be used to make giant letters that spell out fun words for kids!
You’d be hard-pressed to find décor for a child’s room that’s cheaper than craft foam. Available in a multitude of colors and types the foam is perfect for making letters, words and more. Since it’s so lightweight a little double-sided tape is all you need to hang the new décor on the walls and other areas of the room.
Use stencils to draw a letter on each foam sheet or draw them freehand. Cut the letters out then decorate them how you want. You have lots of different choices when it comes to decorating the letters and how to use them. Make each letter of a word the same color, with no decorations on them, or make each letter a different color. Make all the letters the same color – or different colors – but use markers or paint pens to create dots, stripes and other designs on each letter. The designs you make can be all the same for each word or each letter of the word can sport a different design.
Some fun words to spell out on the walls include the child’s name, friends’ names, the name of a pet, the word “fun,”, “play,” “sleep,” “my room” and even days of the week. There are no limits to the various letters, words and phrases you can make. Create a particular theme, like names of animals, or just choose random words that are fun for kids.
The jumbo foam letters are great for walls and doors, but for smaller things, you can always cut smaller letters. Use these to decorate a mirror, bedroom trash can, a lampshade or even curtain tie-backs. Use only certain colors and styles of fun foam or combine various ones, like neon colors or glitter designs.
You can hang the letters so that they all butt together or so that there are spaces between them. You can hang them horizontally and vertically as well. And, although you have the option of hanging the letters so that they’re all aligned and orderly, you can create a more whimsical look if the letters lean this way and that.
You don’t necessarily have to make only letters with the foam. You can cut out simple shapes, like stars, puppies, half-moons and other designs. Use only letters, only shapes, or mix it up and use letters, words, phrases and shapes as well. It’s a cheap and easy way to make a colorful and playful statement in a young child’s room!
