Well, we’re officially in the second half of Season 2 now, so the countdown to sectionals is on! Rumors have been hot all year about who Kurt’s love interest might be. With this episode we might have a contender. Here we go…
Finn and Sam chat while bathing and icing their muscles in the locker room. Sam is frustrated that Quinn won’t give it up. Finn can commiserate having dated Quinn himself and being in the same boat with Rachel. He shares with Sam a technique he uses to keep him cool: remembering when he almost ran over a postal worker. Sam looks around the locker room and finds inspiration: Coach Beiste picking her wedgie.
Now on to the choir room: Pucks back! Yay! He ruled juvie and is ready to sing. Will shares their list of competition, which includes a group called The Warblers. Will announces that it’s time for their 2nd annual Boys vs. Girls tournament. Kurt is bummed that he has to be on boys’ team.
Puck is using Artie for his community serviced project. He told his probie he knew a crippled person and was going to help him.
Big Dave, the football player bully, keeps pushing Kurt into lockers. Will sees this and takes Kurt to his office to talk. Will has noticed Kurt is getting angrier. Kurt thinks homophobia is allowed to slide at McKinley High and also doesn’t fell challenged by Will with the Boys vs. Girls contest.
Will takes his advice. The boys are to sing songs traditionally sung by girls and vice versa. Kurt’s thinking Diana Ross plus Bob Mackie. The boys don’t agree and Kurt feels on the outs again.
Sam uses visions of Coach Beiste to keep him calm during make out sessions with Quinn. Beiste in a teddy carving a slab of ribs with a cleaver. Beiste in a cheerleader uniform. Then he whispers Beiste’s name.
Quinn is worried about Sam sighing Beiste’s name while they were smooching and shares her concern with Sue. Sue sees this as an opportunity to get rid of Beiste once and for all by making her the next Mary Kay Letourneau.
Puck and Artie try to earn a little money by singing Bob Marley’s “One Love / People Get Ready” in the school courtyard. Lucky for them some steel drum players happened to be hanging out… with their drums… They make about 300 bucks for clove cigarettes and whatever. Puck sees Artie staring at Brittany and gives him love advice. They’re decide to use the money to take Santana and Britt on a double date.
Kurt visits one of the rival all-boys-school and meets Blaine (Darren Criss), who mistakes him for a student. Apparently Glee Club is cool at this school. He and Blaine go running hand in hand to an impromptu Glee Club performance in the school’s commons. Blaine and The Warblers bust out with Kay Perry’s “Teenage Dream”. Blaine gives Kurt some sassy glances.
Mike got some advice from Sam about his cooling off technique. Tina decides to put it to the test in an empty classroom. Mike tells her she needs to cool off. She conjures the magic image of Beiste in a tutu, smoking a cigar and whispers her name, to Mike’s surprise.
Quinn confronts Sam in the hallway, loudly, about Beiste, accusing him of having an affair with her. Quinn storms off as Beiste and Will watch. Mike walks by and tells Beiste to stay away from his woman, to Beiste’s utter confusion.
Mike and Sam confess to Will that they have been using Beiste to remain calm during make out sessions. Will gives them the business and tells them that it is not fair to Beiste and they must stop.
Kurt is invited to tea, where some members of The Warblers explain that they know Kurt’s a spy, but they don’t mind. Kurt asks if all of them are gay and they’re not, but Blaine is. Dalton Academy has a zero tolerance policy about harassment. The other glee club boys leave. Blaine and Kurt have a heart to heart about how tough it is to be gay in an intolerant society. Blaine tells Kurt he had the same problem and switched schools to cope, but he regrets it. He advises Kurt to stick to his guns.
The glee girls are struggling with the contest. Rachel has given up her typical bossiness because they are supposed to being doing the opposite of their normal behavior. Puck and Artie ask Britt and Santana to Breadsticks (only if they can’t find hotter chicks to go with first.)
Beiste asks Will what’s up with the Glee Club kids because they are acting weird around her. She begs him to tell her. Although he is hesitant, he does. She walks away sadly. Poor Beiste.
During their double date at Breadsticks, Puck regales the girls and Artie with his tough-guy juvie stories. Brittany is hitting on Artie and Artie is disdainful (Artie is picking up Puck’s chick moves). Puck proposes a dine-and-dash. He doesn’t pay for food as a matter of principal. Artie pays anyway. Puck busts him and leaves him at the restaurant.
Time for the girls’ performance: In leather, chains and bandanas (plus a wind machine), they perform a mash up of Bon Jovi’s “Living on a Prayer” + The Rolling Stones “Start Me Up”. Kurt gets a text from Blaine: “Courage.” Sue summons Will to the auditorium.
Sue informs him that they got Beiste fired (well she actually quit) and now she has her confetti cannons. She gives Will the credit because it was his kids that drove Beiste away.
Dave slams Kurt into a locker for the third time this episode and Kurt has had it! He chases Dave into the locker room and confronts him. “You can’t punch the gay out of me!” And then…
Dave pants a big fat kiss straight on Kurt’s lips! Kurt is shocked and Dave storms out.
Will is so mad at the Glee Club. He is ashamed of them. He hopes they are happy with their behavior. The girls are surprised at the boys cooling off tactics. Except Santana, who tells them that if the girls would just put out, they would have a winning football team.
Puck and Will are hauled into Figgin’s office because Puck hasn’t been doing his community service. If he doesn’t catch up on his service hours, he’s going back to juvie. Puck loses it and doesn’t believe they care about him at all.
Blaine comes to the school to help Kurt with his Dave issue and almost gets smashed for his efforts. Dave does not take their help. Kurt is upset because stupid Dave was his first kiss. Blaine buys him lunch.
Will confronts Beiste in the locker room. He doesn’t want her to leave. His kids are sorry. She says she doesn’t need this and wants to change her life. She tells Will she’s not gay. She wants a man to love her like any other girl. Beiste admits that she’s never been kissed, ever. Will gives her words of encouragement and kisses her. He invites her to the choir room so the boys can apologize to her.
Artie finds Puck clearing out his locker. Puck is taking off, he’s not picking up trash and he’s not going back to juvie. He admits that juvie was scary. Artie convinces him to stay. Artie will tutor him in Geometry; Puck will do his community service.
Dave slams Kurt into a locker again. This time Kurt just sits in the hall looking confused.
The boys apologize to Coach. They tell her she’s hard on the outside and soft on the inside. The boys mash up The Supremes’ “Stop! In the Name of Love” + En Vogue’s “Free Your Mind”. She likes it and thanks them. Group hugs ensue and it looks like Beiste’s staying!
Next week: Gwyneth Paltrow subs for a sick Will.
