Gleeks, get ready! Glee returns on September 21, 2010, fresh off of Emmy wins for Best Director (Ryan Murphy) and Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Jane Lynch). They also should have won an award for casting. In addition to the incredible talent of the show’s stars, Glee has been unmatched in casting guest stars in fantastically funny roles.
Just as the glee club is a melting pot, with members as diverse as their set lists, so were the guest stars who graced the halls of McKinley High. From Doogie Howser (Neil Patrick Harris) to Josh Grobin, from Olivia Newton-John to Eve, the stars who appeared on Glee were more than just big names thrown in for ratings. Each added something special by pushing the actor outside their comfort zone, to great effect.
As Glee continues to gain popularity (and ratings) more celebrities are hoping to get a visitor’s pass to McKinley High. Here are a few confirmed Glee season two guest stars, as well as a few rumors thrown in for good measure.
Glee Guest Star: Britney Spears
Former Disney Mouseketeer Britney Spears is jumping over to FOX in a guest appearance in episode two of Glee’s second season. This will be a tribute show along the lines of the hugely successful Madonna episode in season one. Brit is likely looking to cash in on Glee’s wild success while trying to jumpstart her career-again.
Glee Guest Star: Carol Burnett
Carol Burnett joins the guest alumni of Glee as Sue Sylvester’s mother. The track-suit-clad Cheerios coach casually referred to her parents in the first season when she mentioned they were nazi hunters. While much of what Sylvester says sounds incredible, this was one time that the conniving coach was telling the truth.
Comedienne extraordinaire Carol Burnett plays Mom Sylvester who has apparently hunted down the last nazi and is now checking in with her kids. Burnett’s comedic timing joined with Sylvester’s venomous vernacular should leave fans rolling in the auditorium aisles.
Glee Guest Star: John Stamos
E!Online confirms that John Stamos will be signing up for Glee. After Emma (Jayma Mays) and Will (Matthew Morrison) put the brakes on their budding relationship, she informed him that she has begun dating her dentist. Stamos steps in as the doctor of dentition who woos hooked-on-hygiene Emma.
Stamos has the chops to hold his own with the Glee cast. He has appeared on Broadway in Bye Bye Birdie, Cabaret, Nine and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Plus, he has been playing and touring with the Beach Boys since 1990.
Glee Guest Star: Javier Bardem
Javier Bardem (Eat, Pray, Love) told Entertainment Weekly that he will be joining Glee in season two. He will play a Spanish heavy metal rocker who becomes friends with wheelchair-bound Artie (Kevin McHale).
Glee Guest Star: Susan Boyle
EW reports that Britain’s Got Talent runner-up Susan Boyle has landed a gig as lunch lady at McKinley High in season two of Glee. Nothing is definite yet, but rumor has it that Kurt (Chris Colfer) will give the unlikely star a holiday make-over.
Glee Guest Star: Leona Lewis
British songbird Leona Lewis is reportedly reporting to class-glee club, that is. Though not confirmed, rumors have it that the X Factor winner will appear in season two of Glee.
Glee Guest Star: Jennifer Lopez
There have been rumors that Jennifer Lopez will be appearing on Gleet his season. But if the on-again off-again rumors linking Lopez to American Idol are any indication, don’t hold your breath for her arrival on Glee.
