Glee Season 2 premiere waiting ended last night. The Glee Season 2 premiere unveiled to show that Glee Season 2 will be another musical roller-coaster ride. Although the club, kids and teachers are a year older, they still have the same old problems to deal with. The New Directions are still on the brink of folding, the odds are long for them to save themselves, and the fragile egos of their leaders aren’t making things any easier. But in the Glee Season 2 premiere, some new faces had auditions to play their part in the latest struggle.
Warning: Spoilers follow
Thanks to a report from the obnoxious Jacob, fans quickly got caught up in what Will, Rachel, Finn, Kurt, Puck, Quinn and the gang were up to this summer. It also served as self-satire on the criticism against the show last year, as they try to hold off additional backlash this year as well.
To do that, the Glee Season 2 premiere had the New Directions search for new blood. Although their opening number on “Empire State Of Mind” didn’t get any recruits, Rachel and Finn found some potential stars of their own. New characters Sunshine Corazon and Sam Evans certainly appear to be the new Rachel and Finn — but of course, the original Rachel had some issues with it.
However, Rachel wasn’t the only one threatened by a newcomer. The Glee Season 2 premiere also introduced McKinley High to Coach Beiste, the new football coach threatening both Will and Sue’s budgets. Since Will and Sue formed a truce to end last year, the two furthered their partnership in trying to take their new rival down — at least initially.
In the meantime, one club couple broke up, Finn officially lost his social status, and Quinn managed to regain hers. But the club as a whole is still stuck in their social status as bigger underdogs than usual. Although the Glee Season 2 premiere gave them a chance to get back on track, various obstacles — and bits of acting out — merely sunk them further.
Last year presented the ultimate underdog story, as the Gleeks banded together, found each other — and still technically lost. Since they can’t plausibly lose again this year, if the show is to continue, things have to improve before long, at the least.
However, the Glee Season 2 premiere showed that success is still a ways off. Despite a few new faces, the old ones, especially Will, Rachel and Finn, still have a lot to learn — particularly in the ways of humility. They didn’t entirely get the message last year, but it might be more costly in this go around.
Although the Glee Season 2 premiere welcomed the gang back, next week’s outing stands to be the bigger spectacle, as Britney Spears gets the Glee treatment — in person.
