The Glee Super Bowl episode is going to pack a punch, it seems. This Glee episode will follow the 2011 Super Bowl in February, and some of the songs that will be performed have already been leaked. The early indication is that Michael Jackson’s Thriller could play a big role in the episode, but there are many other top recording artists who are about to get the Glee treatment as well.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Thriller won’t be the only big name that receives the Super Bowl treatment in February. It seems that this will be one of their mash-up songs, with the identity of the other song not yet released. In addition to Michael Jackson, the cast is also going to cover songs from Black Eyes Peas, Lady Antebellum, and Katy Perry during the episode. The episode is getting the “big” treatment because it was chosen as the program that would follow Super Bowl 2011 on Fox. It seems the producers were given a pretty large budget, and they are going to need it to cover so many popular songs.
Shows that have followed the Super Bowl in the past include Survivor on CBS and Grey’s Anatomy on ABC, and in every instance, that show was given a huge bump in the ratings. That will certainly be the case again this year, as Super Bowl viewers hang around to see what comes next. The promotions will be pretty frequent as the big episode approaches, and you can expect Fox to give a lot of cross-promotion during the Super Bowl broadcast as well. This episode of Glee is also going to have one very large sponsor in the form of General Motors as well, meaning that they might not have too many commercials.
Ready for some of the plot premises that will take place during the episode? Beware, because it could contain a plot spoiler or two, and some of the details might not be known within the show until Super Bowl Sunday. It looks like the episode will try to provide sports fans with an interesting wrinkle, as it will cover a local football championship game as well as the Cheerios performing at the cheerleading regionals. That should provide ample opportunities to do some great dance numbers, and it even sounds like there is enough music involved in the episode that we could be looking forward to a new CD in the near future.
