Quick and easy ready meals that are also good for you are hard to find. Many are loaded full of calories, fat, sugar and salt, which does not make them a healthy choice. However, when I spotted Good Earth™ Mediterranean Chicken with Angel Hair Pasta, it seemed like a good solution.
Price and Availability
I bought a 215g (7.6 oz) box of Good Earth™ Mediterranean Chicken with Angel Hair Pasta from Wal-Mart for just $1.50. This product is meant to provide 5 servings, which works out to $0.30 per serving, which is a great deal.
The reason why I was attracted to Good Earth™ Mediterranean Chicken with Angel Hair Pasta was because the product was touted as containing no artificial flavours or preservatives and each serving provided 16g of whole grains, which is a third of your daily recommended allowance of whole grains. With that in mind, I was happy to try this product and see whether it would be “restaurant” quality or not.
If you would like to vary the dish, you can substitute pork tenderloin instead of the chicken, add asparagus and artichoke hearts (during the last 3 minutes of cooking) or any other combination of ingredients that you have on hand. We did not add any extra ingredients. We followed the box directions and just used chicken, water and milk.
When Good Earth™ Mediterranean Chicken with Angel Hair Pasta was ready, it actually looked quite good. As the chicken was added to the angel hair pasta, the sauce thickened. The only thing that I did not find inspiring was the aroma that wafted out of the kitchen. It was not offensive, but neither did it draw me, as home cooked food does.
The chicken was well cooked and not at all tough and the pasta helped to complement it. But the so-called “Mediterranean Seasoning and Tomatoes” did nothing to enhance the taste of the dish. In fact, it did not taste at all like authentic Mediterranean cuisine, which I did not expect, but there was not even a faint similarity. Both my husband and I agreed that the food tasted fair, but it was not outstanding.
Good Earth™ Mediterranean Chicken with Angel Hair Pasta was well priced and fairly quick to whip up, but it did not leave us with the desire to buy this product again.
