I had recently encountered a problem with google — when I’d run a google search, often times (not every time, but often) the first search result link I would click on would redirect me not to the website I wanted, but to some other paid site such as infomash. At first I figured that maybe this was how Google was making it’s money these days — by redirecting search results to paying sites, but after searching the web for information on this I found many other people were having the same problem with google search results and that in fact it is NOT google’s handiwork but the work of some new type of malware.
I had already run numerous scans on my computer with my anti-malware and anti-spybot programs — Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, Windows Defender, and Spybot — and while they did find spyware and some trojan agents on my computer they did NOT fix the problem with my google search results being redirected to other strange websites.
Finally, after searching the web for information on “infomash” (which is the website I was most often redirected to) I found a few threads on the web which recommended using a free program called GooredFix to remove the malware causing the google redirects. One thread on a forum had a link to the download site for GooredFix so I decided to give it a shot. GooredFix is a small file to download, only about 72k in size, so it downloaded quickly and was easy to install.
GooredFix itself is a very simple program and looks like an old DOS program. You simply click on the GooredFix icon and it opens up saying “GooredFix will automatically check for and remove infection. Click Yes to continue or No to exit.” Click on “Yes” and in just a few seconds GooredFix does its thing and gives you a text log of what malicious files it found and removed. Yes… in just a few seconds, and it works!
The first time I ran GooredFix it listed two malicious files that it had found on my computer and removed and I am happy to report that three weeks later I am NOT having any problems with redirects when clicking on Google search results. The program works! It’s easy to dowload, easy to use, and does the job… and it is FREE.
If you are experiencing the same problem with Google search results being redirected to infomash or other strange, paid websites I strongly suggest you download GooredFix and give it a try. There is no GooredFix website, but links to the free download can be found online by searching for GooredFix. (Sorry, I cannot post any links to the download here in this article!)
