The Grammy nominations 2011 were disclosed last night. However, the way the Grammy nominations 2011 were announced almost upstaged the results. This awards show has found a new way to reveal its most honored performers: having most of them sing in the meantime. So, for the third straight year, music’s best performed in a concert while they were getting nominated. But eventually they did find time to announce the Grammy nominations, and pave way for the next big Grammy-related concert in February.
There are 109 categories for the show, but they obviously couldn’t announce them all on the CBS concert. So they stuck to the big ones like Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Record of the Year and many more.
But the name that the Grammy nominations 2011 called out the most was Eminem, as he received 10 nods. “Love The Way You Lie” got into the Song and Record of the Year categories, with “Recovery” making the Album of the Year cut.
Behind Eminem, Bruno Mars got seven nods, mostly for “Nothin’ On You” with B.o.B. Meanwhile, Jay-Z, Lady Antebellum and Lady Gaga tied with six nods each. Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now” got in for Song of the Year, along with Miranda Lambert’s “The House That Built Me,” Ray Lamontagne’s “Beg Steal or Borrow” and Cee-Lo Green’s unprintable hit.
Justin Bieber fans will also be tuning in, since the nominations put him among the favorites for Best New Artist, and put “My World 2.0” in the Best Pop Vocal Album list. In addition, Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” will compete with Eminem, Lady Gaga, Lady Antebellum, and Arcade Fire’s efforts for Album of the Year.
With movie and television awards shows, the nominees find out their fates in the very early morning, at least on the West Coast. In this case, however, they were wide awake, and perhaps already on stage, when they found out they were up for the big prizes.
Although announcing the Grammy nominations was a big show, it may not compare to the actual awards show itself. In that case, it will last well over an hour, and be even more overstuffed with performances from nominees. This time, a few of them will actually take home the Grammys themselves in between sets.
With the Grammy concert over with, they have two months to prepare the sequel, as the awards show airs on Feb. 13, 2011 on CBS.
