The Angry Jack Nation is alive and well after a big Homecoming victory at the Port of the Pirates in Grants, New Mexico. The Grants (NM) Pirates destroyed the visiting Thoreau (NM) Hawks and will enjoy a bye week before opening district play at home. The team is looking forward to another large home crowd for support and to help open play against a district opponent.
The game, set for October 8 at 7:00PM, will be the first of five tough district competitions that will set the stage for a state playoff bid. The Pirates must dominate their visiting opponents. A big game or shutout will help the Pirates start a run for district and state success. The Angry Jack Nation will have to continue the excitement and support that appears to be growing in the program, school, and community.
The Miyamura (Gallup, NM) Patriots are currently 3-1, but still must face off against a tough Farmington (NM) football team that will be heavily favored. Grants will rest this week with a well earned bye-week. They will hope to continue the dominance of their last two games–both impressive shutouts over weaker opponents. Fortunately, the varsity squad has utilized the warm-up games to demonstrate how dominant they may be with district play before them. Both games were for all practical purposes over after the first quarter. A repeat performance is needed to erase doubts after their only loss of the season to the Piedra Vista (Farmington, NM) Panthers early in the season.
The Pirate student-athletes and coaches are asking for overwhelming support and pride to be demonstrated at the district home opener. Come out and experience Friday night football under the lights at the Port of the Pirates while visiting with family and fellow community supporters and boosters. The program needs continued support and a big win will set the tone for the rest of the season. Help Angry Jack Nation mean something as the Pirates take the field on October 8. Wear your red and black, fly your Pirate flags, and get rowdy under the lights as the Pirates continue to dominate their opponents.
