I love dollar stores, Dollar Tree and Honk’s being my favorites (I especially love Honk’s on $.88 Tuesdays). Who says you can’t get great gifts at dollar stores? I often do, and all it takes is a keen eye and the willingness to mix and match for perfect gifts for nearly anyone.
Dollar stores have socks, and leggings, and thermal socks, and toe socks, and all those goofy knee-high novelty socks that are all the craze with teenagers and pre-teens lately. There are a pair of socks for anyone in your family, and you can get many pairs (even fuzzy slipper socks) for a buck apiece, pick up a few pairs, and then complement them with nail polish, manicure or pedicure kits (for gals) or small tools, like flashlights, batteries, electrical tape, warm gloves, or even hats for guys. For boys, buy little toy figurines, like dinosaurs, insects, bouncy balls, toy cars, etc to stuck inside their boring socks, for girls, tuck in necklaces, earrings, stickers, coloring crayons, etc for their boring socks to be more fun to get as a gift. You can get a lot of stuff under $10 for a single gift at a dollar store!
Dollar stores have pretty baskets, too, in all sorts of styles and colors. They have plastic ones in funky colors, the classic baskets weaves, and they have them in all sizes. Grab a basket and fill it full of trinkets, like body washes, bath beads, potpourri, candles, etc to make a fun hodge podge gift (just check expiration dates and smell stuff first to make sure it’s still good).
Dollar stores also have wrapping paper and bags (large and small) on the cheap. A great festive bag is half the gift, and if you leave the tag unsigned it can be reused by the recipient. Also, there are a great many Holiday figurines, decorations, and ornaments that would make great gifts for acquaintances or office parties. I always hit the dollar stores first whenever I shop for anything.
If you know what you’re looking for, you can get great stuff for presents, stocking stuffers, or a trinket to add onto a large gift. Who knows what you’ll find- you just have to be willing to look. And if you don’t find something great the first time, stop by in a week, as dollar stores often restock their merchandise weekly (the Dollar Tree I worked at restocked on Tuesdays). There is always something new to peruse, and save you big money.
