Hello fellow redheads! I have some great tips I’m going to share with you about shades and brands of makeup that are great for our skin and look great with our hair. I hate seeing those cute colorful looks on beautfiul blonde and brunettes but when I try to make this look on me, it’s just not the same. First you need to figure out what kind of redhead you are, do you have freckles, light hair, or dark hair? Are you able to tan? These are all important things to recognize before finding the right makeup for you.
I will start with the light haired redheads. I am one of these redheads, I dye my hair a shade darker for my preference, but I love my redhair all the same. If you are a light haired redhead I am also going to assume that you are fair skinned. I have been fair skinned my entire life and it was been so hard to find the right foundation. I usually end up with a yellow tinted face or a red tinted face. But today after years of searching for the right color I have found mine. I have fair skin and freckles, and I use Clinique foundation. It’s the workout makeup, shade cloud. For all of you who have not tried this I highly recommend that you do. It’s waterproof so you can wear it when you workout and it wont wipe off your face. The downside is I recently heard that this shade has been discontinued. I really hope they bring it back. If Clinique does not have your color I recommend MAC. MAC is great as well, I have the foundation and powder set. I use the color c2. If you do find your color in Clinique it’s definitely a great investment. They tend to be kind of expensive, but trust me it is well worth it. MAC is a little more expensive, but also great. Okay so you have your Clinique makeup, I do not buy the powder to match. It tends to look caked on and make my face dry. I use Max Factor Pan-cake water activated makeup. Now I heard that this too was discontinued in stores but I have been able to find it online. My color is 101 natural no.2, I wear this over the clinique foundation. It will leave your face feeling so smooth, I get compliments from my husband where he says it doesn’t even look like im wearing makeup. It covers my freckles fairly well, if you can view my profile picture I’m wearing the makeup I just told you about. Now for dark haired redheads I recommend the same brands, if your are not pale and are able to tan it should be fairly easy to find your color.
Now that you have your foundation, lets get some eye makeup. For years I have been using black eyeliner and mascara, and I looked at pictures taken of me and I couldn’t figure out what looked wrong. The black was to harsh for my pale skin and light hair. I now use brown/dark brown mascara and eyeliner and it has made a world of difference. The dark haired redheads may be able to get away with the black mascara and eyeliner, but I do not recommend it the lighter your hair is. Also, I have found pastel colors for eyeshadow to be a big mistake. You already have light skin and the pastel clashes with your light hair. I stick to nuetral colors, basically any shade of brown, peach, yellows, or if you want to add some more color I would use darks. Such as dark blue or dark green. I ocassionally wear a dark shimmery purple, usually as night wear though. I find dark colors are best used at night or for going out. Smokey eyes is a very sexy look for us redheads. Dark haired redheads can wear so many colors. I don’t have any special recommendation for the brands you use. Any kind of eyeshadow tends to work great. Also dont forget about primer for your eyes before you put that eyeshadow on, or you will get creases where it builds up. If you have the primer then basically any eyeshadow is fine. But for mascara I have found a great mix. I use Beauty Rush mascara from Victoria’s Secret. I also use 2000 calorie plumping mascara from Max Factor. I use the brush from the Victoria’s Secret, and put the brush into the Max Factor mascara, it definitly works wonders with my eyelashes. Also, everyone looks good in fake eyelashes.
Lipstick, I love lipstick! The most beautiful color on a redhead would have to be peach. Peach anything is so beautiful with our redhair. It really depends on what you like, sheer lipgloss looks great also. The best tip I can give you for lipstick is to not put it on this. It builds up on the side of your lips or makes that weird line across them. Right now I am using a bright red lipstick I gently dab it onto my bottom and upper lip two or three times and blend it in with my finger. It will not turn out bright red like the lipstick looks it tones it down to a very pretty pink. I recommend using all your lipsticks this way, redheads can very easily look overdone. If you have extra lipstick on your finger from rubbing it in gently smooth it onto your cheecks as blush, a very little amout. We already have red undertones so you don’t want to much blush.
I hope that my tips can help another redhead out there. I will be making tutorial videos for pale skinned people, also for redheads. The makeup will look great on anyone but my main focus is faired skinned people. If you have any requests please email me and I will do my best to get it out there for you.
