Every time I go food shopping, I generally ask my children if there is anything special they would like to have in the house for the upcoming week. To my surprise, my younger daughter asked me a few weeks ago if I would buy some sherbet. I generally think of this frozen treat as a summer dessert, but enjoying a bowl of sherbet after dinner sounded like a good idea to me, so I quickly agreed. I was heading over to Walmart before food shopping, so I decided to take a look in their freezer section to see what they had to offer. In between the many cartons of ice cream and Popsicles, I spotted Great Value Fat Free Rainbow Sherbet. The low price of $2.50 for a forty eight fluid ounce container convinced me to give this product a try. Here is what we discovered about this product.
Great Value Fat Free Rainbow Sherbet contains three flavorings in one carton. There is an equal portion of Lemon, Lime and Orange. The front and top of the carton contains pictures of oranges, limes and lemons. It certainly makes for a very colorful packaging, although it also clearly states below the product title that this sherbet has artificial coloring added. The fruit on the front of the carton should not mislead anyone to believe that there is actual fruit or any Vitamin C in this dessert.
One half cup serving of this frozen treat contains one hundred and ten calories. There is absolutely no fat in this product, which is very good news for those following a low fat diet. However, as with many foods that do not contain fat, there is an added amount of sugar for flavor. One serving contains twenty grams of Sugar. Additionally, there is thirty milligrams of Sodium, one gram of Protein and twenty six grams of Total Carbohydrate. On the positive side, each half cup serving does offer fifty milligrams of Potassium and two percent of Calcium.
Those with allergy issues should take note that this product contains milk and may also contain traces of eggs, almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, coconut, filberts, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pine nuts, pistachios, walnuts, peanuts, wheat and soy.
Overall, I found this frozen treat to be very enjoyable. The consistency was very smooth and creamy and the individual citrus flavors were very tasty. The combination of the lemon, lime and orange tastes was quite refreshing and definitely brought a little feeling of summer back to the house. I would give Great Value Fat Free Rainbow Sherbet four out of five dessert stars. The price was right, the sherbet was very tasty and I loved the fact that this product contained no Fat. I would not make this available to my family every night, but would certainly purchase again for an occasional treat.
