Several weeks ago my local Fred Meyer store had a sale on Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches. These were a leaner version, using egg whites, turkey sausage and English muffins. I really enjoyed the taste, and when I ran out I looked for more, but the regular price was too high to justify.
Instead, I decided to buy all of the ingredients to make my own English muffin breakfast sandwiches, and to do that I needed sausage patties. To my delight, my local Walmart store had exactly what I was looking for in their Great Value Fully Cooked Turkey Breakfast Patties.
Great Value Fully Cooked Turkey Breakfast Patties come in a large 24.92 ounce bag, with a convenient reclosable strip along the top. They are found in the frozen food section, and the bag contains 14 turkey sausage patties. Not only does the bag provide a generous amount of patties, but these are nice and large too. Each patty is round and measures 3 1/2 inches in diameter and they are more than 1/4 inch thick.
Great Value Fully Cooked Turkey Breakfast Patties are easy to prepare, you can even heat them in your microwave. The choices are to pan fry for 5-7 minutes, or heat in the microwave for 2 minutes on medium power for one patty, and 3 minutes for two patties.
I generally pan fry most foods such as this because I don’t like how the microwave can make the edges of foods harder than in the center. However, I followed the instructions for cooking on medium heat, and my turkey patty was done to perfection. There were no hard parts and no cold portions in my turkey patty.
While the Great Value Fully Cooked Turkey Breakfast Patty was being heated up, I had my egg cooking in a small fry pan, and my English muffin being toasted in the toaster. In just a few minutes I was enjoying a great tasting egg and muffin breakfast sandwich.
Each patty contains only 90 calories, 6 grams of fat, 1.5 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams of trans fat, 30 mg cholesterol, 360 mg sodium, 105 mg potassium, 0 grams carbohydrates, 0 grams dietary fiber, 0 grams sugars and a nice healthy 9 grams of protein. They also provide 4% of the daily amount of iron and 2% calcium.
I am impressed that the first ingredient in Great Value Fully Cooked Turkey Breakfast Patties is turkey. There is some soy protein as well, but this is listed at the end of the ingredients. These are great tasting sausage patties, and they are not overly salty, which is what I was looking for as I have been retaining water and have been on a lower sodium diet. One patty has only 15% of my daily amount of sodium.
Great Value products are guaranteed, and these patties specifically are guaranteed to be “Juicy and Savory”. The entire bag retailed for only $5.58, which I feel is an excellent value. That makes each sausage patty only 40 cents each! This is a good tasting, value priced food product that I will indeed be purchasing again.
