As I listen to the news and the concerns over global warming, I begin to realize how we were actually living “green” when I grew up. I was born in the late 50’s; in a time when things were much simpler and a family was a family. There was a given structure in our lives and we didn’t have the chaos that surrounds us today. As kids we had given tasks and we learned responsibility from those tasks.
However, today things have gotten totally out of control. We no longer know how we are going to make the rent or put the food we need on our tables. We wonder if we will even have a job tomorrow and currently most of us don’t right now. We worry about global collapse and how green house gassing will affect the earth in which we live. And then I begin to think, we never really had to worry about those things back then because we did everything on a regional basis. There were all the “mom and pop” operated stores at a time before Wal-Mart and branch banking. A time, when you knew you neighbor and the local grocer and banker knew you. Those were the days when we had peace of mind and things were easier. And we didn’t have all of these so called diseases that we now realize are stress related.
I lived in the city and I remember helping my dad in his garden. We always grew the essentials (tomatoes, cucumbers, green onions etc.) and there always was a variety of wild flowers growing around the house. But today no one has the time to tend a garden and those home based businesses that were relevant in the neighborhood no longer exist. You can’t have the high school kid baby sit if they don’t have certifications for emergency care or CPR. You can operate a lawn repair shop or weekend mechanic service out of your garage doing the basics do to EPA regulations. And in some states you can’t do seamstress work from your home if you make clothes or do repairs on clothing for children under 12 if you use materials that contain the smallest amounts of lead. The government wants you to be green, but with all the legislation you can’t because that means doing things on a neighborhood level and deed restrictions won’t allow you do given things and if you going to do them and make it worth your while, doing them you’d have to do it on a large enough scale; and the only way to do so is by going commercial.
And when you go commercial you don’t want the competition from the little guy so you lobby the government to pass that legislation. But for this country to get back in step we must allow for the small business owner and that home based business be given the opportunity to operate. Like here in Texas, I was getting a laugh at a bill that they are trying to move through the State Legislature. This bill involves taxing drinking containers (Glass bottles, plastic drink containers and aluminum cans). Twenty years ago we had deposits on the bottles and this wasn’t a state law, it was something agreed upon by the grocers and the beverage distributors. But it got to the point where the grocers got tired of waiting for the distributors to pick up the waste generated. The majority of the American people have issues with sending this entire product overseas and not getting anything in return. Why send all of this feed stock to China and Japan and all these other countries only to get inferior products sent back at a higher price. It’s odd that we have developed most of the technologies only to send them over to third world countries for the cheaper labor when we need those industries here, even if it is on a limited basis. Yes we need the trade with the other countries to survive and now it has total gotten way out of balance. If we only had 1/3 of the jobs that we have sent overseas our deficit wouldn’t be as bad as it is.
The other day in the news they mentioned that the trade talks that President Obama was looking to make with South Korea and other foreign dignitaries went totally “south”. They ship us how many vehicles and we ship what? We as a country have gone 180 degrees from the position we held in 1972. Back then the US, Great Britain, France and Japan were the main suppliers to most of all of the nations and today we are in debt to those which we supplied. And why is that? We felt pity on those countries and our major corporations felt that it would benefit their needs to move jobs to those less fortunate, and develop their needs. We as a group pay to protect them when they have their uprisings without any thanks and we are made out to be the bad guys. Why can’t we let all these warring nations wipe each other out and then the major powers that are left divide the pieces without the loss of man and machine that we now do. Those that are in alliance could take those lands and resources and work them in unity. And why do we allow the corporations to control our government.
The Constitution states that this is a government of the people, working for the people and is controlled by the people. If so why do we let the petrochemical , the banking and the automobile industries control our government and when they fail due to mismanagement we allow our government to take the people’s money and bail these companies out without anything in return. And when the people need to be bailed out we get table scraps. It’s about time that the people of this world take back what is rightfully theirs and live in a Godly manner for it was by Biblical law that most of our governments were conceived. Most countries wish to emulate us seeing our government has lasted longer than any other form of government to this day. The next question is when we will return to the original twelve tribes of Judea as describe in the Bible or will we truly see the end of days as prophesized in the Books of Daniel and Revelations found in the Bible. We as people only have a short time until the chaos takes control and we destroy each other out of a simple case of madness or we can love each other as God you chose fit, when he found it necessary to forgive each and every one of us for sins by sacrificing himself in the embodiment of Jesus Christ.
The moment we were created in the Garden of Eden we were living green and from the moment of temptation we compromised this planet. God gave us the power, the question is who we gave it to!!! And do we need to have it destroyed in order to rebuild or can we turn things around and clean up the mess we made as a civilization.
