The Estes-Winn Antique Car Museum has been home to a wide variety of antique cars since 1965.
The museum has a lot of antique vehicles from the early 20th Century including Model T’s, Buicks, Cadillacs, and Dodge, and even an old fire truck dating back to the 50’s.
Estes-Winn is located among other museums and galleries in an area called “Grovewood Gallery” which is in a residential type area just outside of downtown Asheville, North Carolina. You can find Grovewood Gallery at 111 Grovewood Road.
Admission is free to all ages but donations are accepted and gladly appreciated.
The museum and galleries have different hours depending on the time of year you choose to visit. They are closed during the winter months of January through March, but are open during the other months.
You can visit the car museum from April until December, Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on Sundays from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Other than the car museum you also have the “Grovewood Studios”. This area is also open to the public and is dedicated to letting visitors and locals see artists working with their glass, clay, or other materials. You can get private tours or just take a self guided one.
They also have items such as jewelry from the local artists. This is a great way to support homemade objects and ask questions and interact with these amazing artists.
You can also visit the “NC Homespun Museum”. This attraction was actually originally located at the Biltmore estate. Here you can learn about Biltmore Industries including how to weave wool with a real antique loom. Anyone interested in original looms or textiles would like this area. Admission to this area is free as well and the hours are the same as the Antique Car museum.
If you want to make a morning and afternoon of this Grovewood area you can. You do not even have to worry about leaving to eat lunch as they have a nice café’ situated there as well.
At the “Grovewood Café” you will certainly be eating well with more upscale types of food then you will find at most small eateries. While you will pay a little more to eat here, if you are in the area and want to treat yourself to a few hours at the Grovewood, than it might be worth it.
They are open lunch and dinner hours and they serve brunch on Sundays.
For lunch expect nice salads and sandwiches that will cost around $10 a plate. For dinner, you might be looking at $20 or more a person, not even including drinks and an appetizer. If you like items such as rack of lamb or filet mignon though, this might be a nice spot to order those items.
They even have a children’s menu with kid’s favorites like mac and cheese, chicken fingers, and a few sandwiches served with fruit. A kid’s meal with be around $7 -$12.
If you are on a budget but want to eat here than you should definitely come during lunch or brunch as you are likely to spend half as much and we all know how we want to save money while on vacation.
Overall, this might be an area to look over if you are only staying in the Ashville area for a weekend, but if you are a local or staying longer, this might be an area worth visiting and eating at.
