In this guide, I will show new users how to set up their general site information in Xoops. If you are new to using Xoops, you may have a bit of trouble when it comes to finding the section to set up your general settings, but this guide will help you. When you start creating your site with Xoops, changing the general settings is one of the things you will want to do. The general settings is where you change your site’s name, email address, and other important features. You can start by logging into your Xoops admin panel.
Once you have logged in, you will need to click the Administration Menu button in your main menu. In the administration menu, you will need to click the Preferences button. On the next page, look for the General Settings option and click the Edit link beside it. You will now be on the page where you can set up your general site information. Let’s take a look at some of the fields below.
Site Name – In this field, you will probably see the url of your site. If you want to, you can delete the url and type just the site’s name.
Slogan for Your Site – If you want to use a slogan on your Xoops site, you will need to enter it in this field. The slogan will appear under the site’s name.
Site Mail Address – This is where you enter your admin email address. Any time someone contacts you through your Xoops site, this is where the email will go. It is probably a good idea to set up an email account just for site purposes.
Username for Anonymous Users – If you allow people to use your site without being registered, they will need a name. In this field, you can enter what name you want assigned to users who have not registered with your site.
Default Comment Display Order – When it comes to comments on your Xoops site, you can decide how you want them to be displayed. You can display them by oldest comment first or newest comment first. You can drop this box down and select the option you want.
There are many, many more options in your general site settings section. You can go through these settings and change them to what you want. When you are finished, click the Go button at the bottom of your page to save your new settings.
