After years of searching for products that actually help grow hair and make it manageable, I have concluded that natural products and those containing vitamins and plant extracts work the best. I have found that although natural hair products generally make the hair soft and feel good, they generally have very strong and pungent smells that make people paranoid about others getting close to them. An example of this type of product is Wild Growth, it is wonderful for making hair soft and will easily grow your hair after a couple months of use, but the smell is horrendous and most can barely tolerate the “lemongrass” smell. I typically like to use this product with micros or twists because the hair used may not hold the smell like human hair from extensions would. Wild Growth contains plant extracts and many other natural ingredients that facilitate follicle growth and make the hair feel nice.
Another good product that people may shy away from because of the smell would be Carol’s Daughter. To me these products make the hair soft and the smell is a little softer compared to Wild Growth. These products made my hair very soft and I felt as though my hair was retaining moisture and the ingredients actually interact with the hair follicle and not everything you lay your head on. Carol’s daughter has a large variety of products to choose from, my personal favorite is the elixir.
For a product that smells good as well as assists with hair growth and retaining moisture, Doo Gro is my choice. Doo Gro is a wonderful product for daily/weekly use depending on how dry your hair may be. I use the stimulating growth oil and I love the fact that these products contain many vitamins and extracts that help the hair grow.
The products that I listed above are my personal favorites and they may or may not work for others, I have thick relaxed hair that easily breaks with use of harsh chemicals. The three products listed above are not very expensive, Carol’s daughter retails for about 12 dollars, the Wild Growth retails for about 8 dollars and the Doo Gro retails for roughly six dollars. To see if a product works for you, you must use the product for a minimum of 2 months. The hair needs to get used to the product and then it will begin to react constant use.
After using the product for a short time, see if there are visible changes with your hair. These changes will help you better access if the product is right for you or not. Avoid harsh chemicals at all cost because they break the hair down more in the attempts of building it up, which causes more damage in the long run.
