There is nothing quite as sassy as the combination of bright pink and zebra print! These extremely fun and whimsical pumpkins are a great alternative to traditional jack-o-lantern carvings this Halloween.
For this project, you will need:
– One fresh pumpkin of any size or shape
– Soapy water
– Paper towels
– Painter’s tape
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Watermelon
– Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Spray Adhesive
– Zebra print scrapbook paper (available at craft supply stores and/or scrapbook paper stores)
– Craft knife
– Self healing mat
– Mod Podge or other decoupage medium
– Sponge brush
– Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth
Before creating your sassy Halloween pumpkin project, it is best to keep the mess down by covering your work area with sheets of old newspaper and/or a large drop cloth. Wash off the outside of the pumpkin using mild soapy water and paper towels. It is vital that all dirt and debris is free from the outside of the pumpkin. Wipe the pumpkin dry with paper towels and leave it to sit for about an hour.
Cut a piece of painter’s tape with scissors. Wrap the tape around the stem of the pumpkin, unless you intend for it to be painted. Prime the outside of the pumpkin using a thick and even coat of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Dry for an hour or longer. Paint the pumpkin with two to three coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Watermelon. Dry for thirty minutes between pink paint coats and then overnight.
Set the sheet of zebra print scrapbook paper flat on the self healing mat. Using a ruler and pencil, create the design that you want to show on the zebra print paper. This can be stripes, diamonds, wording, curved stripes, or anything else desired. Use your imagination to come up with a pumpkin design that suits your unique attitude and style. Cut out the design or designs using a craft knife.
Apply a thick coat of Mod Podge or other decoupage medium to the back of the paper with a sponge brush. Adhere the zebra print paper to the side of the pink painted pumpkin. Leave at least two thirds of the pink area untouched by the zebra print design. Let the decoupage glue dry for a couple hours. Spray the entire pink and zebra pumpkin with Krylon Crystal Clear Spray Adhesive. Dry overnight. Remove the tape from the pumpkin stem and enjoy.
