Monogram pumpkins have become all the rage for the Halloween season. These chic and classy, red and white monogram pumpkins take less time than carving and can be used for several years to come.
For this project, you will need:
– One faux pumpkin of any size or shape (available at craft supply shops and Halloween decor shops)
– Soapy water
– Small dish cloth
– Paper towels
– Painter’s tape
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Cherry Red
– Krylon Spray Adhesive
– Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
– White canvas fabric
– Fabric marking pen
– Large monogram shaped stencil (in any font style or size of your choice)
– Fabric scissors
– Sponge brush
– White acrylic paint
– Paper plate
– Old newspaper and/or a large drop cloth
For easier cleanup when you are finished with this Halloween craft project, it is advised to cover the space you will be working in with sheets of old newspaper and/or a large sized drop cloth. Wash the outside of the faux pumpkin with water and a mild dish detergent. Rinse the outside of the pumpkin piece well and dry it with paper towels. Cover the stem of the faux pumpkin with painter’s tape.
Spray the entire outside of the faux pumpkin using three to five coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Once dry, paint the entire outside of the pumpkin with five to seven thick coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Cherry Red. (This will produce a rich finish on the side of the faux pumpkin.) Let the pumpkin dry overnight.
Place the sheet of white canvas fabric flat on the workspace. Lay the monogram stencil over the fabric. Trace the monogram design onto the fabric with a fabric marking pen. Carefully cut out the monogram design using a pair of fabric scissors. Spray the back of the white canvas fabric piece using Krylon Spray Adhesive. Adhere the monogram to the side of the red painted pumpkin. Smooth the canvas fabric with your fingertips to prevent wrinkling.
Remove the painter’s tape from the faux pumpkin stem. Pour a bit of white acrylic paint onto a small paper plate. Paint the stem of the pumpkin white with a sponge brush. Dry overnight.
Spray the entire creation with Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray. Let the pumpkin dry for a day or so before displaying.
TIP: This is a great project for fall or Halloween themed weddings!
