If you are hosting a strictly grownup Halloween party this fall, these witch silhouette wineglasses would make a great addition to your décor! Easy and inexpensive to create, they can be used for multiple seasons or as favors for guests.
For this project, you will need (per wineglass):
– One clear glass wineglass, any shape or style
– Paper towels
– Witch silhouette stencil (available at craft supply and scrapbooks supply stores)
– Craft knife
– Self healing mat
– Masking tape
– Krylon Frosted Glass Finish in Pearl Gray Frosted Glass
– Krylon Easy Tack Repositionable Adhesive
– Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth
To keep paints and glues from ruining the area where you will be crafting these wineglasses, it is advised to cover the space with a large drop cloth or several sheets of old newspaper. Wash the clear glass wineglass with hot soapy water and rinse it well. Dry the glass using paper towels. Turn the wineglass upside down to air dry for several hours to ensure all moisture is gone from the surface.
Place a sheet of cardstock onto a self healing mat. In pencil, trace the witch silhouette design from the stencil twice. Very carefully cut out the Halloween design with a craft knife.
Spray the backside of both witch silhouette cutouts with Krylon Easy Tack Repositionable Adhesive. Adhere the cardstock pieces to each side of the wineglass opposite each other. Cover the stem and base with masking tape for protection.
Turn the wineglass upside down. Spray the entire outside of the globe of the wineglass with Krylon Frosted Glass Finish in Pearl Gray Frosted Glass. Wait thirty minutes before applying a second coat, drying for an additional thirty minutes, and applying a third coat of frosted glass paint. Allow the wineglass to dry overnight before peeling off the cardstock pieces and masking tape, revealing the Halloween witch silhouette shape in a non-frosted space on the glass. Hand wash the wineglass and enjoy.
TIP: This fun glass project can easily be customized in a variety of ways. Use stencils to create other cutouts to adhere to the side of the wineglass at the same time as you attach the Halloween witch silhouette piece. Other festive options are ghosts, lettering, candy, vampires, Frankenstein monsters, ravens, etc. Purchase a package of Halloween style stencils for more creative options for your wineglass project.
