We’ve all seen those beaded curtains that some people hang over open doorways. They look beautiful in some instances, but other times, they’re just annoying. They’re noisy, for one thing, and they’re heavy as well. If you’re having a Halloween party, and you want to decorate a doorway like that, you don’t want your guests trying to fight weighty beads all night. Instead, make a quick and easy Halloween-theme, beaded curtain-type arrangement that decorates an open doorway but leaves guests free to easily come and go.
Yarn, fishing twine and even heavy string can be used to make the unique Halloween curtain. Cut the pieces to be as long as the door with a few inches to spare. Cut all the pieces the exact length. If they’re too long you can easily trim them down to size later. Decide how many pieces you’ll need by measuring the width of the doorway. Allow one strand for every two inches. Lay the strings out, side-by-side with a small space between each one.
Flat, craft foam shapes are perfect for creating a Halloween theme in a hurry. There are no limits to the designs you can make for the holiday when you use these shapes. They’re inexpensive and come in themes, like Halloween shapes. These bags often contain black cats, orange jack-o-lanterns, black bats and similar shapes. Glue the shapes onto the strings, leaving a small space between each one, and creating the pattern you want.
Although you can decorate the yarn or twine with just the foam shapes you’ll create a lot more interest if you add other things. Small satin bows in black or orange, fake jewels, black or orange pom-poms and similar items are lightweight and inexpensive. Create a pattern such as an orange pumpkin, a black bow, a white ghost then a black bat or make a different pattern. Be sure you change the pattern each time you start a new string or the curtain will have the exact pattern on each strand. Of course, if you want it that way, it’s okay, too.
When all your strings have the foam shapes glued to them you’re ready to hang it. Use a wide piece of tape and affix it to the ends of the yarn or strings. Now simply tape it to the wall. The curtain instantly makes the whole room look like a Halloween party!
