Having grown up outside of America I do not really understand the annual Halloween festivities. Kids, especially my little one are frightened of ghosts, goblins, witches and all that scary stuff that is part of Halloween. On top of that, there is all that candy and what to do with it once you have it. You let the kids collect it, so how can you not let them eat it? What is worse is that the mothers somehow end up eating a bunch of it to keep it away from the kids.
Nevertheless, even though I do not get it, we celebrate Halloween ever year and I try not to be the grouch of Halloween. This Halloween day head to Axis Cafe on Potrero Hill at 5.30 pm with the dressed up kids (and adults) for some pre-trick-or-treating festivities and fun. There will a bouncy house for the little ones – what’s a kids party without the ubiquitous bouncy house. A costume contest is also on the agenda along with games and prizes.
Grab some nourishment at the cozy Axis Cafe and head out to join the costume parade. Guards will be on hand to help with street crossings and maintain some sense of order as you collect your candy.
Maybe this year I will enjoy Halloween as much my kid does.
