Halloween can be a scary time for young children. Older siblings trying on scary costumes and talk of ghost, goblins and things that go bump in the night trigger a small child’s imagination.
Halloween can also be a fun time for young children when parents use the holiday to talk to their children about what frightens them and what is real and not real. Watching Halloween movies together as a family is a good way to open up discussions revolving around Halloween and monsters under the bed.
Here are movies my favorite Halloween movies that are appropriate for very young children.
Monsters, Inc. This Disney/Pixar animated film features the voices of John Goodman as Sully and Billy Crystal as Mike, two professional “Hide under the bed and scare the little kids”, monsters. When a little girl named Boo befriends Sully, the monsters change their scary ways. Fun and goofy for all ages. Rated G. 93 minutes. 2001.
It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, the classic television Halloween cartoon by Charles Schulz. Linus waits in the pumpkin patch for the arrival of the Great Pumpkin.
