Darkness fell fast in Voodoo Cove and the little girl Twilight’s spirit of the lighthouse on the cove would soon be out to haunt anyone who dared to visit along with her uncle Merlin’s. Legend has it young Twilight was pushed off the cliffy rocks right into the crashing dark velvet waves of the ocean by her Uncle Merlin. Merlin was the keeper of the lighthouse and care taker of Twilight after her mother was burned alive by witches and father killed by a wolf attack while hunting for deer.
However, Merlin had no use for Twilight and after 6 years of caring for her he decide it would be best to be done with her for good. So, when night fell Merlin brought Twilight blind folded out to the rocky cliffs and told her they were going to play the game Marco Polo. Twilight loved games and giggles with happiness. Twilight began saying Marco and while Merlin began walking towards the edge of the rocky cliff saying Polo Twilight would listen and follow his voice. One last time Twilight shouted out, ” Marco”, and her voice echoed as she was grabbed by her uncle and pushed off the cliff. The blind fold flew off Twilight as her body hit off the sides of the rocky cliffs and smack down into the dark velvet ocean where she drowned to death and was never found.
It has been said that every night after the accident on October 30th the night before Halloween you can her young Twilight calling out Marco and her uncle shouting back Polo and the crashing of her body up against the rocky sides of the cliffs and smacking into the ocean. It has even been said those who go up to the lighthouse on Voodoo Cove during this time of year and stand close to the cliff will also be pushed off into the ocean as well too drowned.
So October 30th came along and a group of young ladies decided to walk up to Voodoo Cove. The wind was blowing and the leaves were swirling in the air. The temperature was warmer than usual outside for October and dark clouds were covering the moon as if it might storm. As the girls walked the path up to Voodoo Cove they began to her young Twilight’s spirit shouting out “Marco,” but to the girls they thought it was a friend messing with them so they shouted back “Polo.” Once again Twilight’s spirit shouted back “Marco,” and once again the girls shouted out “Polo!” The game went on until the girls reached the lighthouse over looking the rocky cliffs and dark velvet ocean.
The girls giggled and laugh once the reach the lighthouse and shouted out, ” You can come out now because we know you’re a friend just messing with us.” Sure enough right after those word were spoken the moon shined brightly, the temperature dropped, and the wind started howling louder within minutes. The girls were holding onto to each other with dear life afraid of what was happening.
Once again the girls shouted out, “WHO’S THERE!” Young Twilight’s spirit appeared in front of the girls in a long blue night gown and her hair pulled back in braids with a blind fold wrapped around her eyes. Twilight’s spirit shouted out, “MARO,” and one last time and the girls stood silently in fear and in shock and then Merlin Appeared.
He was wearing a pair of blue overalls and his face was dark and grey. His eyes glowed yellow and he shouted out, “POLO!” As Merlin approached the girls they began walking backwards towards the cliff not even realizing it was there. With every shout of Polo coming from Merlin’s spirit the girls would step one foot closer towards the rocky cliffs and one slip closer to the dark velvet ocean. Merlin’s spirit called out again and again the words “POLO!”. The girls shivered and screamed in fear. Their faces white as ghost. Merlin’s spirit called out one last time, “POLO!” Midnight stuck and all the girls feet slipped off the rocky cliffs and once again bodies hit off the sides of the rocky cliffs into the dark velvet ocean with smacks and they drowned.
Now legend has it the night before and the night of Halloween you can hear many voice of the girl’s voices along with Twilight’s and Merlin’s shouting out “Marco Polo,” but now no one dares goes up to Voodoo Cove to say Polo any longer. Now the legends isn’t just a legend. For many people believe and can hear the shouts of Marco Polo being carried in the wind throughout their small town on the last days of October as they sit in their chairs in fear inside their beach houses looking up into the cove of where the lighthouse stands.
