With the holiday season quickly approaching, it’s time to start making all of those fun and easy holiday crafts for kids. Get ready to show off your kids artsy side, with these fun and easy to make paper reindeer. My kids have been making these for years. Each reindeer will be custom made by your little ones own two hands, literally! You can create a tradition of making these hand reindeer every year and watch how their antlers grow year after year! This is sure to be a handmade keepsake that you and your family will treasure for years to come! Happy crafting!
Holiday Hand-tlers Reindeer
construction paper (1-brown, 1-white, 1-black, 1-red, 2-tan) Or whatever colors you like
decorating supplies (glitter, paint, markers, crayons, etc.)
First you need to start by cutting out your pieces to assemble your reindeer. On the brown construction paper draw a long triangle that is rounded at the corners. Make the triangle as large as the paper will allow, approx. 10″ long and 8″ wide. Cut out rounded triangle and set aside. Take the white paper and fold in half. Draw an oval about 2″ in size on one side. Cut out circle, cutting through both sides of folded paper. This will give you 2 white ovals that are the same size and shape. Set ovals aside with the brown triangle. Next take the black paper and repeat steps for white, except make circles only 1″ in diameter. Set aside. Now use red paper and cut out one circle 2″ in diameter and set aside. Finally, using a pencil, trace the child’s hands onto the tan paper with their fingers spread out. Cut out the hands and add to pile. After you have traced and cut out all of your pieces, collect them and get ready to assemble your reindeer.
To assemble the reindeer you will need some white school glue. Start with the brown triangle, as your base (head). Place the triangle on a flat surface pointed towards you. Take the white circles and glue them approx. 3″ down from the top of brown triangle, one on the left and one on the right. Next glue the black circles inside the white circles slightly off center. These will be your reindeer’s’ eyes. Now let’s apply the nose. Use the red circle and glue it to the tip of the triangle on the longest corner. For your hand-tlers, glue the hands to the top of the triangle, with fingers pointing up. Again, glue one on the left side and one on the right. Assembly is complete. Allow glue to dry. After glue has dried, add some personal finishing touches and decorate with markers, crayons, yarn, or glitter. Hang on the front door or window to greet your holiday guests as they arrive.
One idea that would be fun for this project would be to get the whole family involved and create a reindeer family tree. There are many ideas for holiday crafts for kids that you can create this holiday season. I hope that you have fun making this project with your little ones this year.
