Wow, I cannot believe it has been a year since I stumbled on this incredible site. I have learned a lot this year but I’m definitely still learning. In addition, I’ve met some fabulous people and had many encouraging messages and comments. Of course, there have been a few bumps along the way. However, that is to be expected.
What I have learned
First, my best writing is definitely not my most popular writing. I love writing short stories. I also delight in entering the AC poetry contests. My first short story I wrote for AC was The 747.
I’ve decided that people really like to read quotes. Whether they are encouraging quotes, biblical quotes or funny back to school quotes; readers are always looking for something to inspire them. In these tough times, it’s nice to know that people are turning to scriptures for guidance.
I’ve also learned that people are interested in natural disasters, television shows, making money online and, of course, celebrities. This probably isn’t news to anyone.
What I enjoy
I immensely enjoy writing my featured contributor articles. It’s nice to get paid and have the freedom to write. Some of my favorite articles I have written are about my faith like Pay it Forward and Happily Ever After. I also enjoy writing about teaching resources. I’m a teacher so that’s fitting. Additionally, I like writing about health, parenting and fashion. Also, I love the anticipation of seeing my Page View graph in the morning. That little spike gives me a tingling feeling.
What I dislike
Although I am tempted by the page views, I don’t always like writing political articles. I tend to fact check and lament over details. I have to say though, I think I’ve learned more about history and government in the past year than in all of high school and college. Of course, I don’t like the nasty little comments left by people, usually not AC contributors; especially the ones that made a judgment before reading the entire article.
My highest PV articles this year are 10 Funny Back to School Quotes and The Aftermath of the Taiwan Earthquake. My lowest were Black Friday: Survival of the Fittest Shopper and My Bird.
My goals this year
I am hoping to write a large library of evergreen articles and write more of what inspires me. I hope to get at least 200,000 page views this year, meet some more fantastic people and finally figure out SEO. Oh, and I hope to be a Hot 500 sometime in my life.
A Big Thanks
Thank you to all of the people who read my articles, follow me and comment. I look forward to reading your comments and especially appreciate your private messages alerting me about an error or simple giving me feedback. You are all inspiring and have a unique tone and expertise.
