Wizards and witches all across the country flew to see “Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows” this weekend, giving the Harry Potter Franchise its biggest opening to date. The movie earned $125.1 million across America, according to The Celebrity Truth.
Visiting Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, this weekend, which is very close to NYC, I heard about many Harry Potter events going on. If you were one of the brave muggles to go to a movie theater this weekend, you probably saw many fans dressed up as their favorite characters. Well, dressing up as Harry, Hermione, Ron, and Draco weren’t the only “Harry Potter”-themed events going on in the New York City area. There were many more as well.
A show that was very interesting was a performance by the Hogwarts Improvisation Society, at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. It is a unique improv battle between teams Gryffindor and Slytherin, where each team is able to curse the other team’s improv. An interesting show for fans to watch and for anybody who just enjoys improv, according to The Group That Shall Not Be Named.
Even MTV wanted to get in on the Harry Potter-themed events this weekend, asking for fans dressed up in their costumes to be a part of their new show called “The Seven.” Many Harry Potter fans were both waiting outside the studios and got to be a part of the inside-studio audience, according to The Group That Shall Not Be Named.
On Nov. 21, the NYC Wizard Rock took place at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, New York. The festival had 15 wizard rock bands performing, according to NBC News. There were “The Whomping Willows,” “The Remus Lupins” and many others that rocked, or should I say wrocked, the stage.
Besides these Harry Potter events, there were many parties to get ready for the midnight showings of “Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows.” Kelli Jacobs threw a party with her friends to all help each other get dressed up in their best Harry Potter costumes. Jacobs dressed as Hermione Granger, while others in the group dressed as all different characters, so no one would be repeated.
Kelli had this to say about her party: “It’s a party that we’ve been planning for a couple of months now, and we have all brought Harry Potter-themed food. Every aspect of the party has something to do with Harry Potter.”
The party was a success as was the opening of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.”
Harry Potter movies bring out the kid in all of us, and all of these Harry Potter-themed events were fun for the entire family.
