Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 isn’t out today. Yet after today, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 will have surpassed buzz for Part 1. After everyone goes out to see the first half of the final story, they will immediately start their waiting for the second half. Of course, some are already upset that they have to wait so long, which has hurt reviews for today’s new movie. But this has made them more eager to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 anyway – and left them more on edge about its quality.
Originally, the book was adapted into a one part film, but it likely would have been over four hours long. Therefore, Warner Brothers divided it, in a move that divided fans. In the short term, it doesn’t appear to have paid off, as the first half is suffering in some reviews for being a mere prelude.
As everyone knows, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is where all of the final, epic showdowns and revelations take place. Part 1 has the beginning of Harry, Ron and Hermione’s searches for the Horcruxes. But the Battle for Hogwarts, the truth about Snape, the last Harry-Voldemort battle, and the last reassurance that “All was well” has been saved for later.
Footage from this last movie has already been seen in trailers. The first teaser for both parts showed a glimpse of the final battles, as Harry approaches Voldemort one last time. Voldemort proclaims that the “Boy who lived” has “come to die” and that only he can live forever – but Harry has something worth living for.
Perhaps a new trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 will come soon, to build on Part 1. Critics are already waiting with impatience for the last film – either because Part 1 got them more excited, or left them more impatient. Therefore, any new footage for the end will become very valuable.
It is a long wait until July 15, 2011, when the franchise finally comes to an end. Since the first half hasn’t been proclaimed a grand finale by everyone, the second half will have even more pressure put on it. Fans have sat through seven movies to get to this point, with the waiting around in the seventh even longer than usual. As such, they want a massive payoff – even though they already know how it ends.
For now, Part 1 is the big event of the fall. Yet when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 finally comes out, it will be the big event of 2011 in general, or at least of the summer. The end is finished at last on July 15, 2011.
