Halloween is a time for candy, costumes, and scary fun! The Northern Virginia area has some of the most exciting activities around, from corn mazes and haunted plantations, to haunted Civil War Hospitals. Here are just a few of the spooky treats awaiting you.
• Spirits of Historic Brentsville, in Bristow ~ October 22 – 23. This is a guided candlelight tour where you will be introduced to the spirits of people from the 1800’s who lived, worked and faced execution in Brentsville. Caution: This tour is not recommended for children under age 6.
• Fields of Fear, in Centreville ~ October 1-2, 8-9, 15-16, 22-23, 29-31. Located on over 20 acres of Cox farms, 15621 Braddock Road in Centreville, this is a walk through a cornfield labyrinth of terrors. Complete with a haunted hayride, “the fire ground” with bonfires and a torch lit giant slide, a haunted library, Back from the Dead, Claustrophobia, and the autopsy table, the cornfield also features games, prizes, food and snacks, along with shopping and entertainment. • Haunted Ben Lomond Tours, in Manassas ~ October 22-23, 29-30. This tour takes you through a real haunted house, which also served as a Confederate Hospital during and after the Battle of First Manassas. In 1862, Union soldiers campaigning through the area left graffiti on the walls of the home. The home, built in 1837, is within five miles of the site of the First and Second Battles of Manassas. After the tour of the home and grounds, the Mid Atlantic Paranormal Investigator Group will demonstrate the tools of their trade and how they are used. • Oatlands after Five, in Woodbridge ~ October 25-29. This 19th century mansion was a thriving wheat plantation until the Civil War. Now part of the National Historic Registry, during the last week of October, paranormal tours begin at 7 and 8 pm. Tour the plantation as you learn exciting ghostly legends and personal accounts of paranormal activities and unexplained happenings. Ongoing paranormal investigations will also be revealed.
