Last week we saw Chalky take the law into his own hands with Eli’s permission. We also saw how Chicago gangsters take their revenge when they are wronged; as in the case of Jimmy’s prostitute girlfriend, Pearl who had her face slashed by one of the gangsters whose territory, Al Capone and Jimmy are taking over under mobster Johnny Torrio.
Margaret is awakened by the sounds of men’s voices and sees barrels being rolled from a truck. Then Nucky and Eli are sitting in the hotel lobby having coffee talking about the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. Margaret shows up to see Nucky but he blows her off and she does not seem too happy.
Jimmy is attending to Pearl who is healing but has lots of bloody bandages on her face. Her pimp comes to the door and tells Jimmy that she has to get out of there; it’s bad for business to see her all cut up like that. After all, this is a cat house, not a hospital.
Back in Atlantic City, Nucky is talking about the green beer and the Irish celebration and refers to Eli who is taking Dale Carnegie courses on public speaking. At the Ancient Order of the Celts, Eli gets to use his speaking prowess and starts a small war among the members before Nucky sits him down and brings peace and alcohol, bagpipes and little people dressed as leprechauns.
Margaret attends the Temperance League meeting and the ladies are all complaining about bad things that keep happening because of alcohol. She mentions seeking assistance from Nucky, her friend who helped her during the death of her husband. Suddenly the room gets very quiet. So the leader of the League and Margaret go to see Nucky. She tells him about the delivery she saw and he promises to close down the operation immediately.
Van Alden is keeping track of the liquor deliveries at the Post Office when Margaret comes by to see him. He told her when her husband died, that if she had anything to tell him. She tells him about the beer barrels and asks him to shut down the operation. He shows her all the pins on the map where alcohol is being sold, made and warehoused in Atlantic City.
Jimmy is telling Pearl a story to calm her and make her sleep. She is drinking orange juice with opium when he spills it on himself. He gets up to wash his shirt and she kills herself with his gun causing a riot in the cat house. Later that evening he goes to Chinatown and smokes an opium pipe.
The Royal Order of the Celts is raided by Van Arden and his men and arrests James Neary because of the witness testimony of the illegal storage of alcohol. The rest of the people are ordered to disburse and the building is padlocked. As they leave the premises, the Temperance League is outside singing and carrying their banner.
Later that evening as Margaret is asleep she hears a knock on her door. It is Nucky who calls her Margaret for the first time and proceeds to make love to her while her children are asleep.
