There are several Asian legends relating to the origins of Dragon Well. One example that is a Chinese legend is the due to a drought in 250 AD on Lions Peak that threatened the tea crops. Legend states that a monk approached a dragon who lived in a spring to pray for rain to come. The dragon was said to grant this monks wish and the spring didn’t dry out thus the name Dragon Well was created. Dragon Well can now be found growing on peaks of the Teih Mountains which are situated in the Zhejiang province near Hangzhou.
There are four characteristics of Dragon Well. These include its jade green coloring, its flat leaves, fresh yet sweet aroma and its mellow soft taste. This mellow taste prevents Dragon Well tasting bitter which is a quality of black tea. The mellow taste of Dragon Well remains even if it is over brewed.
All types of tea come from a plant which is named Cemellia sinensis however it is the way in which it is processed which creates different types of tea. There are many health benefits of dragon well green tea because it has a high level of anti-oxidant compounds due to the way in which it is processed.
