I love coffee, and am one grumpy bear if I don’t have it in my system. The coffee pot is constantly burping and brewing, and at 2 in the afternoon I’ll have a fresh cup in hand. Now, I argue that coffee is good for the system, following the stories about coffee and preventing cancers, etc and so long as I’m not loading my cup with sugars and fattening milks I feel my coffee consumption is just fine. However, every now and then, it’s good to give coffee a break, and if you have to drink less coffee for health reasons or you just want to have another hot beverage for energy without the jitters, some of these suggestions may work for you.
Postum is a caffeine-free hot powdered beverage that tastes similar to coffee. More accurately, it tastes similar to instant coffee, but it is not a bad hot beverage at all. I’ve been drinking it since I was a kid, and I really enjoy it. But it won’t give you the same energy as coffee does since it lacks caffeine, it’s more a replacement for decaf, but if you want coffee taste during the day but you’re already loaded up on caffeine overdrive, Postum is a great bet. I really like it, and I’m a coffee queen.
Teeccino Herbal Coffee is another great coffee substitute for people cutting back on caffeine but still want that brewed coffee taste. Teeccino actually brews just like regular coffee and tastes like regular coffee as well. I tried a cup and was super impressed. Not all the flavors of the herbal coffee are really good, but it’s a great way to get your coffee boost in the morning without the shaky effects of caffeine. Since it’s herbal you will still get natural energy from drinking it as well. Kinda pricey, but worth it for those who can’t drink coffee or who are trying to quit drinking coffee, and I like the flavor way better than Decaf coffees (too oily). Made with natural products like chicory root, barley, almonds, and figs, this coffee alternative is a great way to get your morning brew and not compromise your health. Very satisfying, and you can buy it in flavors like almond, vanilla, and mocha.
Genmaicha is a great substitute that will give you energy. Genmaicha is green tea with brown rice, and has a mellow flavor which I really like. Doesn’t give me the strong flavor boost I like, but this brew actually increases energy without the shakes, so it is great for people who want an energy-boosting hot beverage in the morning.
Dandy Blend Instant Herbal Coffee is perhaps my favorite alternative to coffee for its great, robust taste and the high energy it gives off. Made from dandelion roots (yes, the weed), this drink is a detoxifier and natural energy booster, and curbs your appetite and speeds metabolism as well. Dandelion gives that same high focus and energy caffeine does without the jitters, and lasts longer. For people wanting the wake up boost of coffee and the taste without the caffeine, go for a dandelion root coffee like the one mentioned.
Great coffee alternatives to choose from! Happy brewing!
