Maybe being able to star on a reality TV show isn’t its own reward. The continuing saga of self-proclaimed “Speidi”, Spencer Pratt, 27, and Heidi Montag, 24, has found Montag reversing course on their impending divorce, according to MTV.com. Montag filed a motion for a dismissal at L.A. County Superior Court on September 29th. She had originally filed in July citing ” irreconcilable differences”.
“We are back together trying to make things work,” the pair said, as quoted on ABC News. “We do love each other and realized we do want to spend the rest of our lives together.”
The couple, who co-starred on MTV’s “The Hills”, have been accused of developing a public life revolving around trumped up drama and publicity stunts. The pair traveled to Costa Rica together only days after Pratt had reportedly tried to sell a sex tape to a porn company. Heidi Montag claimed at the time that there was no sex tape. At the time, Pratt was claiming he was homeless in Malibu and that he was coming down to help her and their puppies move, while Montag wanted to get away from him. She claimed that the sex tape was part of Pratt’s attempts to drum up press, and part of the reason she was filing for divorce.
Both Montag and Pratt have used Twitter to build a celebrity following and to spar with one another, ratcheting up the drama and friction between them.
“The Hills” has reached the end of its run, as the Los Angeles-based reality show announced in 2009 that its sixth season will be its last. Spencer Pratt met Montag on the series, proposing and having their 2008 Mexican marriage covered by the show- a wedding that wasn’t legal at the time and required further plot twists.
The sex tape allegations weren’t a new stunt either. On the show, the rumor of a tape involving star Lauren Conrad ended the friendship between her and Montag, who stood by accused rumor-monger Pratt. Pratt, Conrad, and Whitney Port all eventually left the show, leaving it to revolve around Kristin Cavallari, Lo Bosworth, and Spencer Pratt’s sister, Stephanie.
Given that “The Hills” was about their everyday drama, it seems natural to assume that the continued headlines about the pair are little more than a spin-off show, free from the constraints of producers and attention-grabbing co-stars. The Heidi and Spencer show will continue, it seems, at least until the next allegedly manufactured plot twist develops.
