Do you make your list and check it twice? That is your Christmas card list of course. I love sending and receiving Christmas cards each year but it seems to be a dying trend. With email, Twitter, Facebook and other forms of technology, people are using snail mail less and less to communicate. However, I truly believe that sending Christmas cards is something that should never pass away because there is something special about seeing that red envelope in the mailbox. The thrill of opening it, holding the brightly adorned card, reading the message and realizing which of your friends took the time to send you a holiday wish. No matter how much technology we have in our lives, there is no substitute for receiving a Christmas card in the mail, especially with the unique Christmas cards now available from online and brick and mortar stores. The most unique Christmas cards that I have received over the years include those with personalized photographs of the sender but there are also ones that make me truly grateful I still have loved ones that send me real cards.
Singing Cards – The new Christmas cards that have sound are very fun to send and receive. My favorites are the cards that play Christmas carols; however, you can find ones that play other songs, sounds or sayings. Whether you choice funny, cute or traditional, these cards will be received with delight. TIP: Cards with sound usually are heavier so check the weight to make sure you place enough postage on the envelope to get the cards to your receivers.
Recordable Christmas Cards – These may be the most unique Christmas cards because they have your voice. Recordable cards are great for grandparents how live far away to send to their grandchildren. They are also good for families to send back to those grandparents when they cannot visit for Christmas. Use these cards to capture a moment in time and save it for years.
Photo Christmas Cards – These Christmas cards are always unique and different because people use them to show off their individuality. If you are considering sending a card this year with a personalized photo as the cover, do not limit yourself to a Christmas theme for the picture. For instance, use a picture of the family at the beach with a personalized greeting such as “Wishing you a Christmas filled with warm wishes.” The fun part of sending Christmas cards that use a personal photo as the cover is you have the chance to be as creative as your mind can take you.
Pop-up Christmas Cards – Children love pop-up books and at Christmas, we all still have a child within us who will love these Christmas cards. Pop-up cards are fun to receive and add a little extra fun when the receiver opens the card. Search for cards that express your feelings about the holiday and the delight that it brings to everyone.
3-D Christmas Cards – This is probably the newest of the unique Christmas cards and rapidly becoming one of the most popular. Christmas cards that open into a three-dimensional object are so much fun to receive and display at Christmas. I have several from last year that I kept to display this year and I plan to send 3-D Christmas cards this year. The Frame Workshop introduced a snow globe 3-D card in 2005 and has introduced new versions each year since that time. The cards fold flat to fit into the envelope and then unfolds to reveal a beautiful paper and plastic snow globe.
No matter what unique Christmas card you chose this year, let your personality shine!
