Lefty Steve Carlton

Heroes Of Baseball
Steve Carlton was a Philadelphia Philly for nearly his whole career. Steve Carlton was one of the greatest left-handed pitchers in baseball history and he is a hero of baseball. Steve Carlton played for six Major League baseball teams. He began his career in St. Louis and ended his career with the Minnesota Twins. He played for the San Francisco Giants, Chicago White Sox and the Cleveland Indian. Steve Carlton played most of his career in Philadelphia and will always be a Philadelphia Philly in his baseball heart.
Steve Carlton was involved in one of the most lopsided trades in baseball. The St. Louis Cardinals traded Steve Carlton to the Philadelphia Phillies for pitcher Rick Wise. Steve Carlton ended his career with 329 wins and 244 losses. Rick Wise was an average pitcher who finished his career with 188 wins and 181 losses. Rick Wise was not a bad pitcher, but he was not close to the Pitcher Steve Carlton was.
Steve Carlton finished his career with 4136 strikeouts. Many of those strikeouts were accomplished with a wicked unhittable slider that often hit the ground before it reached the plate. It didn’t matter because many a baseball player swung and missed the pitch anyway. Steve Carlton was selected to the All-Star game ten times and won four Cy Young Awards. He won two World Series, one with the Cardinals and the other with the Phillies. Steve Carlton picked off an amazing 144 runners off base. This record has not been matched.
Steve Carlton was voted into the Hall of Fame in 1994. He received nearly 96% of the vote. The Philadelphia Phillies retired his #32 jersey and made a statue of him. The statue was placed in front of Veterans Stadium and later moved to Citizen Bank Park. Steve Carlton is listed as number 30 out of the top 100 Major League Baseball players by the Sporting News. He now sits forth on the all-time strikeout leaders list. Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson and Roger Clemens (who cheated by using steroids and lied to congress about it) are ahead of Carlton.
Steve Carlton is one of the greatest left-handed pitchers who ever played Major League baseball. He was a great player who never cheated to make more money or enhance his statistics. Steve Carlton was a great Philadelphia Philly and one of the many heroes of baseball. Steve Carlton was the type of pitcher we all would want our children to mimic. He played the game of baseball the way it was meant to be played.
