We are told that Americans are angry. We are told the 2010 Midterm Elections proved that Americans are fed-up with President Obama. We are told that the Tea Party reflects the views of “Joe the Plumber” and Jane the Schoolteacher and Jack the Janitor.
We are told to delay our journeys to see friends and family so we can protest our government’s efforts to protect us. We are told that our government is not doing enough to protect us.
We are told our country is being overtaken by illegal immigrants, Sarah Palin is too stupid to be our next President, and President Obama is a socialist Muslim.
Americans, WAKE UP!
Enough is enough. What if (wait for it, it’s a radical idea) we stopped adopting others’ political opinions as our own beliefs and, instead, used our ability to think for ourselves?
Crazy, I know.
What if instead of filling our heads with garbage spewed from the mouths of political pundits, we researched candidates and issues ourselves? Could it truly be possible to form our own opinions about our country? That’s right our country. You know, the country where my vote carries as much weight as your vote, which carries as much weight as Keith Olbermann’s vote or Sean Hannity’s vote.
The country where my voice has just as much right to be heard as your voice or Rush Limbaugh’s voice or Rachel Maddow’s voice.
The country where the actions of generation after generation of brave young soldiers speak far louder than any of our voices.
It is time for us to turn off the talk radio and twenty-four-hour news networks. It is time to stop posting on radical message boards and spreading false rumors about our leaders.
If we spent the same amount of time and effort volunteering to improve our communities, states, and country as we do trying to tear down our leaders and cause division, the United States of America would once again become the envy of the rest of the world.
We must quit waiting for change to happen. We must take action now.
