Tensions mount again on Williamsburg’s Bedford Avenue, Ground Zero for pedalist and pedestrian conflict. Only this time, both sides have seen the movie “Kick Ass.”
Unlike previous community controversy over pedalists’ disregard for public safety, and reportedly public decorum, this debate concerns aesthetics. A vigilante that goes by the name, “The Bike Crusader,” has taken to putting Krazy Glue in bicycle locks along Bedford Avenue. In an apparent attempt to rid the street of the masses of twisted, bent, forged metal, he/she has decided to make them permanent.
Like a young Clark Kent, “The Bike Crusader” announced him/herself in the Brooklyn Paper (I assume he/she changes in a phone booth nearby) and stated that the “sewer” that Billyburg has been allowed to become will not go unchallenged. “They’re educated, these Yuppies, but they got no respect for nobody.”
Tensions remain tighter than a pair of cigarette jeans on a relocated Midwesterner. Will the Schwinn ever be safe again?
