Are you getting ready for the holidays? The holidays, during times of recession, can be far too stressful for families with children. Especially in households where you spend so much money on the children all year long, buying $50 games they get sick of in a week, eating at restaurants when you run out of time to cook, and everything else that might come up. A few years ago, we gave up buying stocking stuffers for Christmas and we made up new incentive practices – no more money, earned rewards. One of the complaints was that I didn’t want to buy more games, and they wanted me to work less. We came up with some family traditions of our own. We made up the One Free Game Coupon, the Get out of Jail Free Coupon, and the Mommy and Me Coupons.
Free game coupons are given out for special events or holidays (or a great show of junk removal from the house – recycling of course). Get out of Jail Free coupons were earned as well, we typically only give these out for holidays, they remove one grounding – one item (television or computer never both). Mommy and Me days are for shopping, individually rather than as a family. Every year we plan to give these out as part of the holiday tradition – stocking stuffers that can be used later and mean surviving the holiday rush with a little less stress. I recommend it to all busy moms. Everyone uses incentives a little differently, but my favorite thing about coupons are they can be versatile and cost nothing but paper and ink.
