A leftover Pringles can lends itself as the base for this rhinestone and leopard print pencil can project. This fun design is perfect for organizing a sassy female or pre-teen desk space and so easy to create!
For this project, you will need:
– One empty Pringles chip canister
– Soap and water
– Paper towels
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
– Leopard print scrapbook paper (available at craft supply stores and scrapbook supply stores)
– Craft knife
– Self healing mat
– Sponge brush
– Mod Podge or other style of decoupage medium
– Plastic rhinestone jewels (available at craft supply stores)
– Hot glue gun and glue sticks
– Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth
Cover your crafting area with a large drop cloth and/or sheets of old newspaper. Wash out any crumbs or chip residue inside the Pringles can using soap and water. (NOTE: Do not use too much water or you could damage the can.) Dry the inside of the can with paper towels and allow it to set upside down on additional paper towels for a few hours.
Spray the outside of the can with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Continue to add layers of primer until you can no longer see the print on the can. Dry completely, which should take no more than two to three hours to do.
Use a ruler and a pencil to determine the amount of scrapbook paper needed to cover the outside of the can. Mark this measurement directly onto the leopard print scrapbook paper. Cut out the paper piece with a craft knife. Apply a fair amount of Mod Podge or other style of decoupage medium to the back of the leopard paper piece using a sponge brush. Immediately adhere the paper to the side of the Pringles can. Smooth the leopard print paper with your fingertips to prevent any wrinkling. Dry overnight before proceeding with the project.
Heat up the hot glue gun on a warm setting. Apply a dab of glue to the back of one rhinestone jewel. Apply it to the outside of the leopard print Pringles can. Continue to add jewels until there is a horizontal stripe of jewels around the top outside of the can and bottom outside of the can. Let the glue cool completely before inserting pencils and other office supplies.
TIP: This project also looks awesome when done in zebra print scrapbook paper!
